FAQ

MICROBLADING BROWS

Microblading

What is microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo that's done manually using tiny strokes with a disposable blade to replicate brow hairs.

Its a technique used to create the illusion of fuller brows.  You can choose from a very natural light finish to a beautifully bold brow.  I will consult with you about the best brow shape for their face and choose a color that matches the natural hair color and skin undertone. The brow area is then cleaned and numbed for the treatment.

Who is a good candidate for microblading?

Anyone with thin, uneven, patchy brows. If you draw your eyebrows on, or even if you have brows but want to make them more lush looking.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

• 24 hours prior to your appointment, DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL or CAFFEINE.

• 72 hours prior to your appointment, DO NOT TAKE ADVIL or other blood thinners such as Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Niacin or Vitamin E unless medically necessary.

• Botox should be done 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after the procedure.

• Avoid booking during your menstrual cycle as it can increase your pain.

• No waxing, tanning or tinting 3 days before.

• Arrive with no makeup for your appointment. A lot of wiping of pigment takes place and makeup can get ruined, so save yourself the hassle!

• Be prepared for your brows to look a little red and really dark! – don’t worry, they will fade in color 30-50%.

You are NOT a suitable candidate for this procedure if you are:

• Pregnant

• History of Keloids or Hypertrophic scarring

• Diabetic (require doctor’s clearance)

• Chemotherapy (consult your doctor)

• Viral infections and/or diseases

• Epilepsy

• Pacemaker or major heart problems

• Organ transplant

• Skin irritations or Psoriasis near the treated area (rashes, sunburn, acne, etc.)

• Sick (cold, flu, etc.)

• Accutane in the past year

• Heart conditions, Uncontrolled High Blood Pressure, Poor general health.

• Any treatment, medication, or illness that compromises the immune system / healing would make you NOT a good candidate for micropigmentation procedures.

When do I need to get a retouch?

A touch-up between 6 to 8 weeks after your first procedure is imperative for the microblading process for the optimal look and longevity.

A touch-up every 8-12 months is recommended to keep your brows looking fresh as the colour begins to fade after 12 months.

How long does microblading take?

Microblading is a 2 step process that is usually 6 to 8 weeks apart. It is imperative to complete both the first procedure along with the touch up for optimal results.

STEP 1: FIRST PROCEDURE

First procedure takes approximately 2 hours. This includes a consultation where we discuss the brow look you desire, choose a colour tone and draw the initial outline of the procedure for your approval. Once you are satisfied with the shape, symmetry and colour, we trace over the area and semi-permanent pigment is applied with a disposable microblading hand tool. This procedure uses a manual hand tool without the use of a machine.

STEP 2: TOUCH-UP

The touch-up procedure is an imperative step of the microblading process and is typically done 6 to 8 weeks of your first procedure. This session takes approximately 1 hour and is included in the initial fee. If you do not schedule your touch-up within 8 weeks of your initial procedure you will be required to pay the full fee again. Without a touch-up, the results will not be optimal as the colour will fade significantly within 4 weeks as your skin heals, peels and then fades. The touch-up corrects any irregularities in the microbladed hair strokes and colour tones to complete the process.

How long does microblading last?

The microblading pigmentation is semi-permanent and can last between 1 to 3 years. The pigmentation will begin to fade within 12 months. To keep you brows looking fresh, we recommend a touch-up every 12 months. Clients that opted for a lighter and softer shade initially may require more frequent touch ups. Depending on the clients lifestyle and their after care the longevity varies between each and every client. Other factors that may cause your microbladed eyebrows to fade faster include:

  • Salt water Exposure
  • Sun Exposure
  • Exfoliants
  • Smoking
  • Iron Deficiency
  • Strong immune systems

Is the Microblading painful?

I will take every necessary precaution to ensure the microblading procedure is as painless as possible by using a strong topical anaesthetic cream prior to and during the procedure to keep you as comfortable as possible. Be prepared to sit for 30 minutes to make sure anaesthetic cream works.

How long does microblading take to heal?

Your brows will appear significantly darker and prominent than your finished look for the first 10 days after the procedure. It may continue to darken within the first 10 days as scabs begin to form. 30% to 50% of your brow colour will fade as the scabs heal. In some cases, scabs may take longer to heal but it is important to emphasize the importance of not picking your scabs and allowing it to heal naturally as you may risk pulling out the pigment out of your skin prematurely. I will give you brow balm to apply.

What do I need to do for aftercare?

The following must be avoided during all 14 days post procedure:

  • Increased sweating- working out
  • Swimming, Hot sauna, hot bath, or Jacuzzi, sun tanning or salon tanning
  • Exposure to UV/UVA Rays or chemicals as they have been known to cause a shift in color and premature fading
  • Any laser or chemical treatments or peelings, and/or any creams containing Retin-A or Glycolic acid on the treatment area
  • Picking, peeling, or scratching of the micro pigmented area in order to avoid scarring of the area or removal of the pigment
  • Drinking alcohol in excess, as it may lead to slow healing of wounds
  • Touching of the eyebrow area except for when rinsing and applying the post-care cream with a cotton swab

What are the different types of eyelash extensions?

Classic- are applied individually 1:1 ratio

Hybrid- typically uses 30% classic lashes and 70% volume lashes

Volume- ranges from 1:2-1:10 ratio, making your lashes more full looking.

Do I need to prep before my appointment?

Prior to your appointment, please arrive without any eye makeup, do not curl your lashes or wear mascara the day before and the day of your appointment. It will help minimize the cleanup time and more time for lashing. Do not wear contacts.

How long is the appointment?

Lash appointment will take anywhere from 1.5-2.5 hours depending on style of lashes you want and how many natural lashes you have.

Why do you suggest not to talk during my lash appointment?

It's not that lash artists don't enjoy your conversation, it's really the best way to get the most out of your appointment. When you talk, you most likely move your eyes, cheeks, and sometimes even your whole head without realizing it.

Will it hurt?

No, its actually the opposite. Be prepared to unwind and relax during your appointment.

Will it ruin or cause my natural lashes to fall out?

Based on the growth cycle of eyelashes, when applying lashes, lash stylist are trained to look for adult lashes to attach the individual synthetic lashes. Young (baby) lashes are left to allow them to fully develop and when it comes times to re-lash, I have new strong lashes to bond to.

Lash extensions will not cause your natural eyelashes to fall out. Remember that your natural lashes have their own life cycle of falling and growing – like the hair found elsewhere on your body. It's hard to notice small lashes falling out, but when attached to a thicker, longer lash they become much more noticeable! Once the extensions are removed, your own eyes may appear smaller, your natural lashes, shorter and sparser because you've been accustomed to a full set of longer, thicker lashes.

How long will my lashes last?

Your new lashes will last between 2 to 3 weeks depending on your skincare routine, how you take care of them and your own natural lash life cycle. To maintain the full look of your lashes, it will require you to maintain refills every 2-3 weeks to look full.

How do I take care of my new lash extensions?

  • Do not get your lashes wet for at least 24 hours after application
  • Do not go tanning for 24 hours after application
  • Use an oil-free eye makeup remover
  • Try not to run water directly on your lashes
  • Do not rub, pick or pull your eyes
  • If using mascara, use water based formulas, when applying mascara avoiding the root area.
  • Avoid using an eyelash curler, or cutting lashes. I can remove if needed
  • Try to avoid exposure to heat, steam, sauna and friction, be careful using hair dryer directly on the lashes.
  • Receiving chemical treatments, such as eyelash tinting or perming
  • Receiving irritating eye area treatments, such as strong chemical peels, skin re-surfacing procedures, eyebrow waxing or laser treatments
  • Get them filled 2-3 weeks to maintain the look of fullness.

HENNA BROWS

Henna brows

What are henna brows?

Henna brows are a form of eyebrow tinting that is used to stain the skin beneath the brow hairs and the actually brow hairs. The purpose is to cast a shadow or create the illusion of depth and fullness to the brows, visually filling in any sparseness.

Henna is a natural permanent dye taken from the leaves of the henna plant.

How long after the treatment can I get my brows wet?

The skin needs to stay dry for at least 12 hours (preferably 24hrs) after henna application as wiping or rinsing with water to the area will stop the henna developing. The henna stain will take 12-24hrs to reach its full colour potential.

What is lash lift and Tint?

It's a lifting technique designed to give you longer-looking lashes without the need for lash extensions. It will look as if you used a really good eyelash curler, only this lift lasts up to 4 weeks!  I'll apply a black lash tint which really makes your lashes look more beautiful. The procedure takes about 45 to 60 mins to complete. It really is an easy way to instantly brighten and open up the eye area!

PLEASE ARRIVE TO YOUR APPOINTMENT COMPLETELY FREE OF EYE MAKE UP!  Also, you must stop usage of waterproof mascara at least 2 days prior to your Lift as it will dry out your lashes. If you wear contacts, they must be removed.

Will my lashes look like lash extensions, thicker and fuller?

Lash extensions and lash lifts are 2 totally different looks. I will not be adding any additional lashes to you. I will simply be curling your natural lashes. That said, when you wear mascara days after, they will appear longer because they are lifted.
